During our break between classes today I was chatting with the person sitting next to me. Presumably because of my accent, she asked me where I was from. When I told her she replied with “where is Canada?” She honestly had no idea. I told her that it’s in North America. You guessed, she once again replied with “where is that?” How is that even possible? Canada is the second largest country in the world! Glance at a glove and you will probably notice, at the very least, Canada and Russia – the two huge countries. The saddest part of this entire experience is that she was a third year medical student.

I guess that is pretty bad. I mean, none of us could list all the tiny Eastern European countries, and likely Asia is a bigger mystery than China+Japan+Taiwan...but Canada is Canada! It is right there!
