Back at school

Today from the first day back at school; we started trimester four of six. I’m chipping away at it and I’m sure I’ll be done before I know it. Our course load is as heavy as usual this time around:

Semester 2, July - October (trimester 4 of programme)

Great fun.

Other than that I"m still working at the pharmacy and bike shop. I think this might be my last weekend at the bike shop because I can't do both since classes have started up again.

July 15th.

Today is July 15. This time last year I left the Edmonton international airport en-route to Perth. I almost missed that flight because they changed the gate number and moved take off time thirty minutes sooner. I hadn’t heard the announcements over the intercom but I sure was surprised to be the only person waiting at my gate. Luckily a flight attendant came by my gate to check for passengers just before take off. Once he got me to the correct gate I was on the plane and it took off almost immediately. I wonder what would have happened had I missed that plane.

Grades

UWA released our grades today. I did well and I'm happy with the results. Two distinctions and I missed distinction in medicinal chemisrty by ONE PERCENT. Oh well, its not that big of a deal. I heard that six of the 37 pharmacy students failed enough courses to be left behind. That hurts. If I had to guess I'm doing well compared to the rest of the pharm students. Good stuff.

Other than that, the pharmacy has been busy. I haven't made any interesting compounds worth reporting. Today it was pouring rain constantly for the entire day and the pharmacy was a complete ghost town. We filled less than half the number of prescriptions compared to a normal Tuesday. Standing around made the time go slowly but I did some reading in my AMH.

That's all for now.

More cell phone pictures

I took this picture to show how different the ambulances are in Perth. They are green and white and made by Mercedes. Also, the the sirens sound different. This photo was taken on Mounts Bay road. The swan river is on the right and our place is just along the river about 3 minutes up the road. Kings park is on the left.

I snapped this picture at the local IGA. That thickened cream is like whipped cream but without air in it - more like custard. A slice of cake at a restaurant would come with a scoop of nasty thickened cream.

I came across these strange brick couches last week while doing a delivery for the pharmacy. They were in the court yard of a condo complex.

Working

Lots has been going on.

Last Thursday, a week ago, I finished my last exam. It was exhausting but the exam went okay. Now I’m waiting for the term marks. Should be okay.

So, I had last Friday and Saturday off. Danielle and I took the time to do something… I can’t remember exactly what.

Then I worked at the bike shop on Sunday and on Monday I started at a pharmacy working full time. The pharmacy has been pretty good. I got to make two compounds on my first day. One of them has ichthammol in it which is a chemical I had not worked with before. It was a viscous liquid like honey but it didn’t stick to the jar but instead remained as a semi-solid. Anyway, it was hard to measure and work with but the finished product was nice. Good experience.

More to come.
