Nursing Home Review
I met my patient today. He is a friendly 91 year old man. When I asked him what his main health concern was he told me that his biggest problem is that he needs some double-A batteries from his voice recorder. Pretty funny. Actually his health appears to be above average considering his age. After meeting him I went back to the nurses station to read his medical history and it turns out he's Canadian and he fought in WWII. I have to go back next week to follow up with him.
Other than that I worked some more on my research project today. We've determined that the Perfalgan is stable in glass and PVC. Now were checking the same in the presence of drugs which are normally co administered with perfalgan like morphine and fentanyl (~100x more potent than morphine). The next step is to head over to the children's hospital to pick up some more PVC bags and the drugs of interest.

Assignments
This week I'm working on a paper (among other things) which is due on Friday. It's basically an editorial style paper where I need to explain a complicated topic to an audience with no scientific background. Its actually really difficult! I'm been putting it off for weeks and now its crunch time. Maybe I'll post it on my blog once it's done. Just maybe.
Tomorrow I'm spending the morning at a nursing home. We're doing "nursing home reviews" where we get assigned a patient and then we go through all of their drugs to look for problems and possible areas for improvement. Should be interesting. If it's blog worthy I'll be sure to update.

Another Prize

This is actually post worthy. Danielle won another prize! From the highest aggregate mark in year one pharmaceutics (compounding). Simply amazing. On Tuesday the 28th of April we will be heading to a prize dinner to collect her prize which may include some cash. Should be fun.
I wonder if there will be cake?
Week Off
Today is Friday the 17th of April 2009 and I've had a break from classes this week. Unfortunately, it hasn't been much of a break because I've been in the lab working on my paracetamol/acetaminophen project. The results are looking okay but it's been a ton of work so far and there is lots more to be done. Its a 24 hour experiment so I've been in a lab late all week. Not fun!
Danielle has three exams next week so she's been busy hitting the books as well. We've done nothing post worthy.
I don't know why I'm even posting this because I haven't even said anything.

Vice Chancellors List
Tonight I made a trip to up the road to the “other” university in Perth that has a pharmacy school - also known as Danielle’s school or Curtin UofT. The reason for this rare trip was that tonight there was an awards ceremony for the vice chancellors list. For those of you who don’t know, and I suspect that is everyone who reads this blog, the vice chancellors list is a list of brilliant scholars who have excelled at Curtin UofT and these visionary have the top aggregate mark in their respective faculty. They make up 1% of all the students at Curtin. Impressive! I’m so proud of her! what a great achievement. They called them up by name just like at graduation. It was well done. Now were back home hitting the books. Hopefully she’ll be in the top 1% next year as well. Stay tuned.
